Julianna Margulies and Keith Lieberthal have a sweet love story. They met in 2006 and quickly formed a strong bond. In an interview with Oprah’s OWN, Julianna shared, “I waited! I was 39 when I met Keith. I was ready for a real relationship and left my baggage behind. I could see him clearly for who he was. I never pretended to be anything I wasn’t.” Even though she was a well-known actress, Keith didn’t recognize her at first.

Julianna Margulies met Keith Lieberthal in early 2006. Their meeting was unexpected and happened through a mutual friend. She shared the story on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Julianna said she almost didn’t go to the dinner where they met. It was hosted by an agent she liked but didn’t end up signing with. “I met my husband at a dinner party I wasn’t going to go to,” she told Ellen. “I remembered the agent’s birthday six months later and texted him, ‘Happy birthday.’ He replied, ‘I’m in the city, come have dinner with us.’ I said, ‘I’ll come for a drink.’” At the time, Julianna was about to start a Broadway show. She didn’t want to stay out late but that changed. Keith was there that night. He had gone to Dartmouth, and the agent who invited her had been his R.A. in college.

But it wasn’t just about look’s feel bad because people objectify him,” she said. “They’re like, ‘Oh, your husband is so hot.’ The truth is, he’s unbelievably smart and went to Harvard Law.”According to his LinkedIn page, Keith graduated from Harvard Law School in 1999. He earned his Juris Doctor degree there. When they first met, he told Julianna,
“I was a Wall Street litigator for six years.” Since then, Keith has held top roles at several companies. He worked at Tommy Hilfiger, Guide point, and Lincoln Center International. He served as general counsel or director in those jobs. Today, Keith is the Head of Americas at Hakluyt & Company. It’s a consulting firm based in London. He has worked there for nearly five years.
The Moment Julianna Margulies Knew Keith Was the One
Six months into their relationship, Julianna Margulies invited Keith Lieberthal to a big event. It was the premiere of her movie Snakes on a Plane. “It was the weekend of our six-month anniversary,” she told PEOPLE. “We were in L.A. and went to a restaurant to celebrate.” She remembered looking at Keith across the table after the movie. “It was a fun movie to make,” she said.
“I’ll do anything with Samuel L. Jackson. But it’s not a high-brow film. And he had so much fun.” That night showed her something important. “We had a great time at the premiere,” she said. “We were laughing so hard.” At dinner, she had a strong feeling. “If he could sit through that and still see me for who I am,” she thought, “I would marry this guy if he asked me tomorrow.”
