Najee Laurent Todd Eugene Smith is the son of rapper James Todd Smith, who goes by the stage name LL Cool J. He was born in 1989. His birthday falls on 28th September. His mother is Simone I. Smith, who is a co-founder of Simone I. Smith Jewelry. Najee has three siblings.

Married life

LL Cool J has been married to Simone I. Smith since 1995. They first met in 1987. He was 19 years old at the time. One day, he was driving his mom’s car down the street. He stopped to say hello to a friend. The friend asked if he wanted to meet his cousin. At first, LL Cool J said no because he had somewhere to go. But when he saw her, he changed his mind. He agreed to meet her. That’s how he met Simone. They started dating soon after. They now have four kids and two grandchildren. Their marriage has lasted more than 30 years.

LL Cool J and His Father’s Money Issues

James’s father was his manager. He also handled all his finances. At first, things seemed fine. But later, James noticed problems. He found out his father wasn’t managing his money well. He didn’t pay James’s taxes. He also used company credit cards for personal things. Other people were stealing money too.

James said he once bought 12 cars, 2,000 caps, and a lot of jewelry. Because of poor money management, he had to pay $2 million to  IRS. His father also didn’t support his acting career. He didn’t pass along movie offers James was getting. In the end, James fired his father as his manager.

James found out that his mother was adopted. The grandparents who raised him were not related by blood. He shared his mother’s birth certificate on a TV show. Experts on the show found her birth index. They discovered that her birth name was Jolly. This news shocked James. Still, it didn’t change his love for the grandparents who raised him. He said he understood why they kept it a secret. He now feels even more love and respect for them than before.

LL Cool J became famous in 1985 with his album Radio. The album got great reviews and  a big success. It had six singles, including the hit “I Can’t Live Without My Radio. The album helped make LL Cool J a well-known name in music. His success also brought attention to his family.

Najee Smith’s Arrest in New York

LL Cool J’s son, Najee Smith, was once arrested in New York. The incident happened at restaurant called Catch in the Meatpacking District. Najee refused  leave the restaurant when asked. He then got into a fight with the security guards. The guards called the police. Police believed Najee had been drinking too much. He was taken into custody. His parents worked hard to get him out of detention. Later that year, the police dropped the charges. The case was closed in December.
