Veronica Porché Ali is an American psychologist and former actress.
She was married to boxing legend Muhammad Ali from 1977 to 1986. In 1992, she married singer and actor Carl Anderson. They stayed together until his death in 2004.Veronica was born in California but lived in Louisiana for a short time. She later returned to California and studied at the University of Southern California. Today, she works as a psychologist in Los Angeles.She met Muhammad Ali in 1974 when she was 18. They were in Kinshasa, Zaire at the time. They got married in 1977 and had two daughters—Laila Ali, a boxer and actress, and Hana Yasmeen Ali, an author. Veronica also acted in movies and TV. Veronica Porcha Ali was born on December 16, 1955. Her parents were Ethel and Horace Porcha. They were both descendants of Louisiana Creole people. Some sources say she was born in Los Angeles, California. Others say she was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
She went to Holy Rosary Catholic boarding school in Lafayette, Louisiana for two years. After that, she moved back to Echo Park, California. She graduated from Belmont High School in Los Angeles in 1973. Then she joined the University of Southern California for college.
Career and Later Life
In her younger years, Veronica Porcha Ali worked as a model. She took acting classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse to overcome her shyness. Over time, she gained some experience as an actress. In 1986, she acted in the crime horror movie Terror on Alcatraz. She played Ranger Emily, a tour guide. The film was directed by Philip Marcus and Marvin G. Lipschultz. It tells the story of Frank Morris, a real-life criminal who returns to Alcatraz, the prison he once escaped from. The cast also included Aldo Ray, Sandy Brooke, Bea Marcus, Lisa Ramirez, and Scott Ryder.
Veronica had a small role in the 1979 miniseries Freedom Road. It also starred Muhammad Ali and Kris Kristofferson. The story is based on a 1944 novel by Howard Fast. It follows Gideon Jackson, a former slave who becomes a senator after the Civil War. After her daughter Laila Ali became a boxer, Veronica appeared in documentaries about her as well.
